About rajatghosh

Rajat Ghosh, who received his bachelor’s degree from Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur in 2008 and his master’s degree in from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta in 2010, is pursuing his doctoral study in mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech. As a graduate research assistant in the CEETHERM Data Center Laboratory led by Prof. Yogendra Joshi, his major research includes developing a dynamic reduced-order for predicting air temperatures in data centers. With proliferation of e-commerce services (e.g., Google, Amazon), data centers are consuming as high as 2% of total electricity production in USA. Considering the importance of the problem and his innate propensity towards thermo-fluidics, Rajat became interested in a research work for improving the energy efficiency in data centers. In context of developing sustainable energy usage strategies for future, his research has potential of delivering far-reaching societal value. Rajat has published one journal article in Langmuir and seven articles in various conference proceedings APS-DFD, InterPACK, and ITherm. Prior to doctoral research he worked in the actuation in microfluidic devices. His master’s thesis involves computational design of synthetic cilia for maneuvering microscopic particles in microfluidic devices and his bachelor thesis explores computational design of centrifugally-aided microfluidic transport. Rajat has gained valuable experiences as a professional and as a teacher. In 2008, Rajat briefly worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a technical project management trainee. During an internship in 2007, he designed an ultra-strong nanolayer for mitigating delamination of microscale devices. In 2012, he taught Introduction to Energy System Engineering, a senior level mechanical engineering course at Georgia Tech for one semester. Prior to that in 2009, he served as a Teaching Assistant in Creative Decisions and Design, a sophomore-level mechanical engineering course at Georgia Tech for three semesters. Rajat held various leadership positions around the campus including the mechanical engineering senator in the student government association (SGA) and the secretary of the mechanical engineering graduate association (MEGA). In his leisure, Rajat likes to spend time by swimming, working out in the gym, reading novels, hanging out with friends, and watching movies.
